Mount Olympus is formed of sedimentary rock laid down 200 million years ago in a shallow sea. The highest peak, Mytikas, rises to 2,918 metres.
The shape of Olympus, the polymorphous beauty of its nature and the fog covered peaks, filled people with awe and admiration from ancient times.
In Greek mythology, Mount Olympus was regarded as the abode of the gods.
